Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 Bronze Guitar Strings
Do you kinda dread the thought of changing your guitar strings like I do? Why is that? Let’s see – it costs money to change strings, the ‘New String Sound’ is not particularly appealing to most guitar players and it just takes too doggone long to change strings. So what do most of us do? We leave the old strings on our guitar much longer than we should and are depriving the quality sound that our acoustic guitars are capable of producing.
I have always been a dedicated 80/20 Bronze string user and have gravitated from Martin to GHS to d’Addario Strings for years and years. When Elixir came out with their coated strings, I just blew them off for years. After all how could strings last as long as they were touting? 5 times? no way! We guitar players are quite often set in our ways and when we find something that works, we dig our heels in and there has to be an earthquake to change our minds.
So I resisted and resisted and finally, after looking at my fine acoustic guitar with the black, yucky first and second strings and the discolored wound strings and said to myself. ‘I’m goin’ for it’. So I logged onto Amazon and did a search for Elixir 80/20 strings and found they had a bunch of them – in fact all of the available sets!
I did some research too, on the Elixir Website and narrowed down my search. I do like a rather bright sound for my guitar. I feel that with d’Addario’s, I like the sound the best after about 3-4 days of playing. I found that the Elixir Strings that would meet this specification would be the Elixir 80/20 Bronze with the Nanoweb Coating would be just the ticket. (refer to image below).
I found a set of Elixir 80/20 Bronze Nanoweb Lights for about $12.00 and ordered them. They arrived in just a few short days and I put them on, still filled with apprehension I must admit.
It has been about 3 months since I made this move and I couldn’t be more pleased with my purchase! They sound almost as good as they did after being on the guitar for a week. The brightness level is just right for my style of playing and they look like brand new. No black 1st and 2nd strings, the wound strings look like they did when I put them on and there is no perceivable wear. Normally I would have had to replace my old d’Addario’s about 3 to 4 times to achieve this life on my strings.
You can do this too. Think of the time alone you will save. I feel that I will only have to change my strings 3 times a year from now on. Maybe if I’m real lazy and procrastinate, I can stretch that out to twice a year. That works out to $11.99/set x 3, which equals about $36.00/year. Compare that to my d’Addario’s that I can pickup for about $4.00 per set and change once per month. that words out to $4.00 x 12, which equals about $48.00. So not only do I save some money, I save the time of changing strings 9 additional times per year.

I love elixir! I absolutly love the sound of these, but they break on me after two sundays of playing. they sound great! if you like to strum lightly or finger pick you’ll love them! if you are a slightly aggressive strummer like me you’ll break them.
