Ultimate Acoustic Guitar

Your Acoustic Guitar Authority:

Welcome to Ultimate Acoustic Guitar – Your authority on everything that relates to this great instrument that we call the acoustic or the steel string guitar. It makes no difference if you are a Flatpicker ro a Fingerpicker – we gotcha covered in our articles.

Acoustic guitar gained popularity in the 1920′s when C.F. Martin & Co. made drastic changes to the then gut-stringed guitar.

They added steel string to the guitar to bring more volume and tone to an otherwise quite lackluster instrument.

Along with that change, many other changes were driven by the increased tension of the steel strings such as:

  • Larger Sound Box
  • Radically Different Bridge Configuration
  • Stronger Machine Heads
  • Beefed Up Top Bracing (now known as X-bracing)
  • Different Scale Lengths
  • 14 Fret as Well as 12 Fret Neck
  • Dovetail Neck Joint
  • Narrower Neck
  • Steel Reinforced Neck
  • And….much more.
